Montmartre

Sacré Coeur
although impressive on the outside and located at the top of a hill marking the highest point in Paris, Sacre Coueur was not even close to being impressive on the inside as compared to many of the churches we have visited.

Plus we werent too happy that there was a gift shop inside, as well as souvenir coin pressing machines that were said to function as "donations." Now I dont know about you, but something about this doesnt make me think 'spiritual place of worship'...

Espace Dalí
had an exceptional collection of Dali's bronze sculptures as well as etchings and prints.

And also a Dali photo booth!

Big Wigs

Musée du Louvre

We received our jeunes amis du louvre (young friends of the louvre) cards a few days ago which allows us unlimited access to the Louvre. This includes free access to permanent collections and temporary exhibitions for one year.  The great thing is it costs as much as admission to get into the Louvre once + purchasing a ticket for a temporary exhibition... so going 1 time easily pays for itself.

Oh and did I mention we get to skip the lines? Rock stars.

We gave the 1st floor a "quick" two hour run through yesterday only stopping to briefly see...
Mona
La Victoire de Samothrace
Napoleon III's apartments (which takes up almost half of the first floor)

There are 4 floors total. Our friend Joel who won the Cite last year spent 8 hours/day for two months studying art work and drawing and he still did not see all of it. It is THAT big.

The lines were long, the galleries were packed, and if you stood in place for too long you were bound to get run over. I'm talking people herding around in groups of 30. It was like being at a rock concert. We are hoping getting there earlier in the day will help beat the crowd, but I kind of doubt it. Needless to say a "few" more trips are in order...

in other news...
Musée de l’Orangerie
Claude Monet's Les Nymphéas consisted of two oval shaped rooms containing four large scale works in each

my face in this picture sums up my experience here, but as it goes, was one of Andy's favorite museums

La Prégrille

crème brûlée

only in Paris is all of the recycling wine bottles

Homesickness was in the air yesterday, and as embarrassing as it is to admit with all of the great food here... it was time for some greasy fried chicken...
And yes, I brought my own Tabasco sauce.. because whether you are in France or US, KFC aint got shit on Popeyes!

Actually, Carl didn't even use the tobasco because the KFC was so delicious on it's own... unlike Popeyes!- Andy

Some photos of our apartment...
The main room which functions as our "studios" (hence the two desks, andys on the left, mine on the right) and sleeping area...
... the other side of the main room. Entrance from the hall in the back
"dining room." Post-its have what we did or accomplished written in French for each day
Attempting to plan the rest of our Euro trip
tiiiny kitchen with hot plate. And yes, we are keeping inventory of the 1€ wine and champagne we drink.
